On Thursday and Friday I endured some of the most boring hours of my life. I was stuck sitting in Orientation, which was mandatory for all entering undergrad students, though, I am sure the transfer student orientation was much more interesting. After long hours of listening to people talk about what I already knew, I got to go home and come back the next morning, to walk ALOT in the 98 degree weather. Alls well that ends well though, and I finally got to register for my classes. And I have Junior STATUS! WOOT!
My schedule is more chopped up than I would like, but it’s all good. Computer Programming II is from 2:30-3:30 on MWF, which is a really bad time slot, especially since my other classes get out at 12:30. But, I wanted to get that class over with, so I can deal with a bad time slot. I am also taking pre-calc because calc didn’t fit into my schedule and I thought I should take at least one easier class fall quarter with Programming II (which is one of the hardest classes you can take at UW apparently. YAY!) My newly found contact in the Computer Science and Engineering program also signed me up for CSE 490, which is a one-credit seminar class that I am stoked about. Once she told me we get to go on field trips, I was in, let alone it’s a 400 level class! And lastly, I am taking ECON 200 (Microeconomics) just incase the whole Computer Science and Engineering thing doesn’t go though.
I have started to write again. I haven’t gotten too far on my current project, but I am going to try to finish it by the 10th of September, when rush starts. I guarantee I won’t have time after that, but a 1st draft will be easy to knock out in a month and a half.
I graduated with (my associates and accounting clerk certificate) and went to prom in June. That was eventful.
Steve and I had to outrun some park rangers when we went to Fort Stevens when we went the weekend before the forth. The rest of our trip to the beach was fun. We did go to the battery and there is a ghost in one of our pictures. CREEPY!
Sarah and I left for ATL on the third of July, which we were very angry about because we did not want to miss our forth of July. Our grandparents ended up ditching on the fireworks like 20 minutes before we needed to leave so they could spend more time with their neighbors. Sarah and I were not happy about this. Sarah actually didn’t find out until later that night that we were not going to go and I got to walk around the neighborhood with her crying. We did find one person who was shooting off real fireworks, but we only got to see a couple.
The rest of that week was fairly uneventful. We went to various pools, drove a Porsche, and went shopping. On Friday, we saw Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Mans Chest. OPENING DAY BABY! Just like Perkins and me going to see the first one. The movie was acceptable. Nothing overly special, but a tad better than I predicted it would be. I think the third has potential. It will probably be better than the second, but not better than the first. We also went boating with the neighbors (Mr. Jon, Ms. Anne, Johanna, Mr. Paul, and Ms. Janice) on Sunday, but we had to come in really early because of thunder storms. We went over to Mr. Jon’s house for dinner though. The chicken was oddly spiced, but the rest of the meal was pretty good.
The next week, we drove to DC. It only took us 11-12 hours to get there, but it took us 14+ hours to get back. My great aunt is a very nice lady, but a little wak. Wiggity wak. She lives in Rock Hall, MD, which is like the most poe-dunk town I have ever been too. Actually, it’s more of like a retire-ee community. We spent a day doing nothing there, eating at horrible HORRIBLE “restaurants.” The third and forth days that we were there we went into DC, which was kind of a nightmare. My psychotic grandmother put 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in as the destination, and once we were in DC, it kept telling us to circle the white house and she kept saying “It’s not telling me where I need to go.” She was too reliant on her 3 year old navigation system and she wouldn’t listen to a damn word I said about where to go, even though I had a current map. After she looked for a parking space for 3 hours, we finally got out of the car and headed towards the museums. BUT of course she didn’t think I could read a map, so she had to stop ever 2 minutes to take another look at the map and delay us some more. The first day we went to the Smithsonian Natural History and Art Museums. The Portrait gallery was really cool in the Art Museum. The second day, my psycho grandmother said we needed to be out the door by 7. Of course, Sarah and I were ready bright and early, but she had to diddle daddle, then go eat breakfast at some diner, so it was 10:30 by the time we got on the road. It is a two hour drive from Rock Hall, so it was quite a while until we arrived. After walking to the closed National Archives, we went over to the Smithsonian castle, the capital building, and the botany garden place. Then we left and parked in a lot that I had pointed out a gazillion times the day before, so that we could go to the monuments. We went to Jefferson first, and then to Washington, though, the grandmother did not want to walk the quarter mile to the Lincoln, so we missed that one.
After being tourists, we went to eat dinner with our uncle Bob and his new wife. We went to a steak place called Copeland’s and it was really pretty good. Bob seems to be doing well. We talked about old peoples’ loss of taste and inability to navigate when my grandmother was in the bathroom. I really hope he comes to live on the west coast again sometime in the future.
After getting back to ATL, we just went to Six Flags, which was packed and the rides were closed for about 3 hours because of thunder storms. We also went to Mr. Jon’s house for dinner again, and to White Water. Throughout this trip, I learned that I never want to live on the east coast, my grandmother is psychotic, and my grandmother can’t drive the mini SUV that she has had for three years and “weighs 6000 pounds” (it actually weighs about 4000 pounds).
Other than that, I have just been working. My birthday is next Thursday, so I think I might have a party or go to the casino or something. The Scandi Fest is from the 10th through the 13th this year, which is pretty awesome. And CORAL lives in Eugene, so I am going to go hang out with her which will be totally awesome. Not to mention it’s my dads 20 year high school reunion.
